The Tamalin drums from Africa Heartwood Project in Ghana come in two sizes, the medium being 10″x16″x3″, and the large being 12″x18″x3″. This drum comes from the Ga, and is played traditionally in ensembles consisting of many sizes and varieties of frame drums, as well in popular Ghanaian music. The floating frame allows the drum to be tuned using triangular wood wedges. The tamalin is played with one hand holding frame and playing on underside of skin, and other hand playing bare or with light wood beater. This drum features:

  • hand built solid Mansonia wood frames and tuning wedges
  • goat skin head, shaved smooth and permanently installed on exterior frame
  • triangular tuning wedges included
