Our Deluxe Oval African Baskets from Africa Heartwood Project are custom crafted by the artists themselves making each one unique, just like the woman who made it! Available in one size range (large) and two style options. The Natural baskets have no color, dyes, or patterns, but feature the simple and elegant light brown color of clean, dry elephant grass. The Colorful baskets feature a beautiful mix of colors woven into any variety of geometric patterns. Details of sizes and prices can be seen by clicking the “Sizes & Prices” tab just below.
Each deluxe basket in our collection is made from the elephant grass which grows in the rich flood plains of the White Volta near the village of Bolgatanga, Northern Ghana. For Colorful baskets the grass has been dyed and dried before weaving. We love that women artsians, working in family & village co-operatives, hand-weave each basket using traditional techniques handed down from generation to generation. Non-profit Africa Heartwood Project supports the sustainable livelihoods of cultural artisans in developing countries by providing training, investment, and access to global markets.
